Red Deer

Originally from Europe, red deer are a very attractive and majestic animal with bulls weighing 400 to 550lbs.  The ranch raises two varieties: Yugoslavian and English Park.  The Yugoslavian trophies normally have 6 to 7 points per side and have a crown towards the top of the beam, where three or more points arise in a crown or cup shape. Management deer normally have 4 or 5 points per side and are relatively rare in our herd.  The English Park variety generally has more antler mass than the Yugoslavian’s but commonly have shorter beams. English Park’s sport many more points, with racks often having 20 to 30. The best time to hunt red deer is late August and September.  Although they hold their antlers much longer, antler breakage and scared capes are common in the later months.
