Sika Deer

Native to Siberia, Japan, China and Formosa, sika deer are rusty brown in color with faint spots and typically sport 4x4 racks.  The ranch raises two varieties: Formosan and the larger Dybowski.  Mature Formosans weigh 140 to 180lbs and usually have beams from 22 to 25 inches.  Dybowski’s are much larger with bucks weighing from 220 to 300lbs and often have 27 to 30+ inch beams. Management bucks usually have a total of 6 or 7 points instead of 8, or have shorter than average points. The best months for harvest are September and October. However, they can be harvested until late December.
